Wild Country has always had the strongest connections with the USA for twin reasons. Firstly, that the designer of the Friend, the product on which Wild Country made its name, was an American. And secondly that it was in America, especially in 'theValley' and Utah, both big places with never ending parallel cracks, where Friends really opened up the free climbing. Therefore, Wild country has always maintained a strong presence in the USA and continues to regard it as the 'proving ground' for many of its products. Big walls and trad routes in the US and worldwide, stress, strain and challenge all gear. Wild Country has a long history of seizing the challenge and supplying climbers with the right tools for the job. Wild Country's innovative products like Friends and recently, Zero's have proven their commitment to quality and evolution in gear making. Their take up and sales in this market makes Wild Country a happy company. Up until the end of the 1990's Wild Country USA was an independent distribution subsiduary of the UK company and had a large distrbution centre in North Conway, New Hampshire, close to the classic cliffs of Rumney. Since then however, Wild Country have re-organised to take advantage of the more lithe and slimmed down organisation provided by Excalibur Distribution. Based in SLC, the husband and wife team of Steve Petro and Lisa Gnade - two of the most well renowned climbers in the USA in their time - now provide a solid base for Wild Country to move forward in the USA. Once again, Wild Country is very keen to be associated with climbers like Lisa and Steve and the strong climbers that make up Excalibur's sales team (please see bio's). As with their British counterparts, they are able to provide feedback for current products and inspiration for new ones.
