Kevin's no fool - and he's right. Zeros were greeted with astonishment when they were shown at the worlds trade shows in 2002 and since then they've proved to be in a league of their own - fitting in where nothing else can or will... As a company dedicated to meeting then beating the standards of the day the Zeros project was the essentail first part of our 21st century overhaul. This overhaul was dedicated to making the lightest gear possible. Inspired by the new era of speed ascents in the Valley by the Hubers, Dean Potter, Leo Houlding and the new wave of uber-difficult clean-aid routes others we felt that the time was ripe for the original cam company to make its contribution. The amazing Zero 1 - With a range of 5.5 - 7.8mm and weighing in at only 26grams this is the smallest and lightest cam in the world. Talking to our guys 'on the ground' and plenty of retailers we tried to figure was missing from the rack - what tools could make the difference? Something that could advance tiny 'clean' placements, that was so light it was no burden to carry, that was so flexible at the head it wouldn't lever out or break the placement? For all of these questions there seemed one obvious solution and the Zeros project was born. However, to make Zeros mean something and be accepted as the number one it was obvious we had to go further than anyone else had. Thus the task list was prioritised: we would take every essential function of a camming device and re-visit it until we could truthfully say we had made an advance and moved the game on. This was process was to occupy our designers for nearly two years and tax our engineers to the limits to get the reliability and progression we needed. |
